TEXT TEAM DARE
Who are you & what is your role in the team?
I’m Henna Pursiainen, a curious mind combined with ambition and lots of laughter. I’m the CEO of Dare to Learn with a prior background in social sciences, advocacy and NGOs. I’m interested in finding out what kind of impact learning can have not only on individuals but also on organizations and on societies as a whole.
As a CEO, I take care of people, money and strategy. That means helping our team create splendid things, being in contact with a various range of people in the Dare to Learn community as well as with different stakeholders. One could say that my head is in the clouds, eyes on the horizon but feet firmly on the ground.
What does continuous learning mean to you?
Personally, it means having the pleasure of developing my skills and knowledge, exploring the world and understanding matters from a different point of view. Within our team, I see it as a way of enabling a culture of learning: we can try and do things differently, acknowledge mistakes as a natural part of a learning process and thus develop a fearless “dare to fail and learn from it” attitude.
In the societal level, continuous learning challenges our current organization structures as well as higher education institutions. If we truly want to understand the ever more complex and changing world, we must accept our limitations. But by learning, we can push those limitations and expand our knowledge.
If you had a magic wand that could give you one superpower, what would that be? Why?
I’ve always loved the sea, lakes and being in water. However, I’ve never even been tempted to try diving. If I could breathe underwater, the problem would be easily solved.
Team Dare Introduces is a series of posts where the people behind Dare to Learn are introduced through a short interview. The first five posts are about the core team of Dare to Learn 2019.
