Dare to Learn is a learning event like no other! Known for its warmth, ambitious content and unique experience, the event is hosted for the fourth time this year with a new, digital addition to the program.
Behind the event is a non-profit organization Sivistyskiihdyttämö ry.
EVENT VOLUNTEERSWhat does it take?
Desire to learn. Daring attitude. Courage to take a chance. We expect a basic reliability and commitment from our volunteers. A will to solve problems, customer service orientation and communication skills help a long way, but we require you nothing that can't be learned. Dare to Learn is a team-based community. You’ll be volunteering in your own Crew, which is in charge of certain aspect of the event. This Crew will be lead by a Crew Captain. Our working language is English. Dare to Learn wishes to receive volunteers from versatile backgrounds, genders and nationalities. If you are not able to attend to the trainings and meetings before Dare to Learn because you don’t live in Finland (or for some other reason), please mention this in your application. Depending on your Crew, these volunteer posts take generally a few hours a week. In July Dare to Learn is on a Summer break. Make sure you are available on the following dates: 29.8. CREW CAPTAINSWhat does it take?
A can-do attitude, mixed with good social skills and a high motivation for leading your very own team are all good qualities for an aspiring Crew Captain. As a Crew Captain you get to make decisions regarding your own Crew. We expect proactiveness and commitment from our Crew Captains. You receive support from the Head of Community Saana Annala, in addition to peer support from other Crew Captains. Volunteering in the role of a Crew Captain offers you an opportunity to train your leadership skills, gain experience in managing your own team and a safe place to learn and grow. Previous experience in leading and/or volunteering is an asset, but by no means mandatory. All Crew Captains receive Leadership Training before the event. Dare to Learn is a team-based community. As a Crew Captains, you are in charge or taking care of you own Crew, which is in charge of certain aspect of the event. Some Crews might have two Crew Captains. We communicate mostly on our Slack board and use Google Drive for storing and sharing our documents. Our working language is English. Dare to Learn wishes to receive volunteers from versatile backgrounds, genders and nationalities. Crew Captain’s role takes around few hours weekly, and most work is conducted in August and September. In July Dare to Learn is on a Summer break. What do I get?
In short: we offer you a spectacular experience with a chance to meet cool new people and show off your talent. Whether you are volunteering as a Crew Captain or an Event Volunteer, you’ll be making Dare to Learn at the heart of it. You get to face new challenges and learn while doing in a supportive environment wearing your own D-shirt. You’ll receive training before the event and get the chance to build experience and connections, while having a fun time as a part of our Dare Community. As a Crew Captain, you also get the chance to build your leadership skills and gain experience on what it’s like to be in charge of your own team.
At the event we offer lunch, insurance and a chance to participate to Dare to Learn’s program in your free time. After the event is over, there’s still the Volunteer After Party awaiting! You’ll also get a Volunteer Certificate from the work you’ve done, including the trainings you’ve had.
You don’t need to fear making mistakes with us. The only fail unaccepted is a failure not to learn from mistakes! Dare to Learn gives you an opportunity to both grow as a learner, volunteer and a team member.

Ready for the best volunteer experience of your life? Great! Here are the application forms for event volunteers and crew captains. Before that tho, please check all the possible Volunteer Crews from below beforehand and try to choose your top 3 interests.

CREWS 2020
Event Crew takes care of the smooth participant experience at the event. You will know everything about anything the participants might want to know, guide them to the correct locations and collect feedback. Event Crew also helps out the with networking among participants during the event.
Workshops Crew is responsible for all the workshops’ organizing in cooperation with the partners, from having pens and papers in place to making sure that the participants find just the workshop they are looking for. Workshop Crew has also the opportunity to facilitate the workshops themselves.
Power Crew consists of multitalent volunteers that don’t have a specific role beforehand. You know everything about absolutely everything in order to help out other Crews when there’s a problem or a shortage of helpful hands. Expect anything in this role!
Social Media Crew helps share the details and highlights of Dare to Learn through all of our major social media channels: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram. Be ready to go Live on Facebook, take pictures and videos, make Instagram stories, communicate through Tweets and much more! You also get to work with PR and media relations. Entrance Crew takes responsibility in participation accreditation to the event, the ticket service and the cloakroom service. This Crew has an extremely important role in giving the first impression and the last goodbye to the participants of Dare to Learn.
Stage Crew is responsible for taking care of Dare to Learn’s speakers and stages. This includes tasks from testing microphones to making sure our speakers are having a wonderful time. You also have the chance to volunteer for big stage extravagances, such as the GESA Awards.
Cyber Crew takes care of the digital content of Dare to Learn. For the first time ever, we will be having program also online, ensuring that long-distance participation is also possible. In Cyber Crew you will be helping out with streaming the event, facilitating online workshops and creating the Digital Dare Experience!
Community Crew works in close collaboration with the Head of Community ensuring amazing volunteer experience at Dare to Learn! This Crew will be helping out in organizing the trainings, thanking and refreshing volunteers at the event, collecting their feedback regularly, and hosting the Volunteer After Party. Your volunteer tasks place mostly before or after Dare to Learn, so if you want to participate in the event itself as much as possible, this Crew may be the perfect choice for you!

If you are not selected, your information will not be deleted immediately incase we still need to contact you. The volunteer applications will be deleted in any case by the end of the year. If you are selected, your contact details are shared with the core Team of Dare to Learn 2020, your own group and other volunteers when necessary.
Your dietary information will be shared to the people in charge of the caterings at the meetings and at the event with no details to connect to you, unless it’s compulsory to secure your safety. We try our best to provide catering fit for everyone, but this may not be achieved completely. If you have severe or multiple difficult allergies etc. please be aware that we may not be able to take everything in count when catering for dozens of people, as we are not professionals. Your other medical details you provide us will not be shared without your further consent.
